During a highly contentious hearing of the Committee on Financial Services, far-left Democrat Joyce Beatty from Ohio engaged in a dispute with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Beatty’s tirade extended for nearly two minutes as she unleashed a series of dishonest criticisms against Bessent.
To provide context, throughout her politically charged diatribe, she condemned Bessent for his refusal to acquiesce to her demands to feature Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill, a long-standing initiative championed by liberals for the past three decades. These irrelevant comments underscore the woke left’s struggle to contend with a self-assured conservative.
Regardless, the hearing, which took place on May 7, 2025, commenced with a dialogue regarding the requirement for foreign businesses to file with federal agencies. The progressive Democrat from Ohio initiated the discussion by asking, “Could you clarify for the American public how you undermine the bipartisan CTA and anticipate that law enforcement and national security agencies will swiftly and effectively identify the true owners behind shell companies registered in the United States?”
Continuing her progressive diatribe, she sought to portray this reasonable stance as being lenient towards crime. She asserted, “Now that foreigners, including members of a drug cartel and gang affiliates, can establish a company in the United States without any state or federal ownership disclosure requirements. I remind you of your testimony, where you mentioned illicit actors? Well, these are some of our illicit actors!”
Responding to her harsh remarks with a composed demeanor, which effectively silenced her, Bissent stated, “The Congresswoman, a significant majority of the domestic entities you are referring to are diligent Americans operating small businesses.”
Irritated by his tranquil attitude, Beatty launched a counterattack. She interrupted, “So you’re implying that it is not accurate that they must file and that the foreign entities are required to file with the BOI.” Clearly frustrated, the treasury secretary replied, “Yes, we have separated the CTA program so that domestic entities are exempt.”
Recognizing that this line of questioning was unproductive, the Democrat shifted to familiar progressive rhetoric. Beatty interjected, “I mean, you can phrase it however you wish, but the reality is no, and this facilitates matters, and this is what I want the American public to understand. It simplifies the process for human and drug traffickers, cartels, terrorist organizations, and other criminals to operate within the United States.
Continuing her exaggerated tirade, she lamented, “By restricting enforcement solely to foreign entities, you effectively exclude 99% of the entities that Congress aimed to include when the law was enacted. Therefore, I believe I have my answer. Although we do not concur on this matter, we understand the reasons behind it.”

Ultimately wrapping up her disrespectful tirade, the progressive Democrat attempted to interject with her final question as the chair sought to restore order. She claimed, “So let me address my Congress. I mean, it’s my time. Allow me to proceed to my next question. The clock is ticking. He did not adhere to my allotted time, which was separate from his. In 2016, former Secretary Jack Lew declared that Harriet Tubman would be the new face of the $20 bill. Could you inform me of the current status of this initiative?” Annoyed, Bessent replied tersely, “No, ma’am, I cannot, but my staff will follow up with you.”
