Born on August 5, 1945, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Anderson became a TV icon through her role as Jennifer Marlowe on WKRP in Cincinnati (1978–1982). Her portrayal earned her two Emmy and three Golden Globe nominations. Anderson redefined the image of blondes on TV by playing a glamorous yet intelligent character.

In a 2021 interview, Anderson recalled her transformation from brunette to blonde, noting how it positively affected her career. Series creator Hugh Wilson helped shape her character into “the smartest person in the room,” a groundbreaking concept for the time.
