Fatal Injuries Claim Life of Bull Rider at Youth Fair in Texas

A professional bull rider has d**d after being trampled during a rodeo event in Texas, according to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).

Dylan Grant, 24, was competing in the second round of an Xtreme Bulls competition at the Wharton County Youth Fair in Wharton on Thursday when he was thrown from a bull and then trampled, the PRCA said in a statement Friday, as reported by ABC News.

Emergency responders quickly reached Grant, placed him in an ambulance, and worked to stabilize him before he was airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston. Despite their efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries, officials confirmed.

Grant, a native of Laramie, Wyoming, has built a solid rodeo career, competing in multiple events and earning over $15,000 since he began in the sport, according to his PRCA bio. He earned his PRCA permit in 2018 and officially joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association by purchasing his PRCA card on February 14, 2024.

In 2021, while representing the University of Wyoming rodeo team, he claimed the bull riding championship at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo. A member of his rodeo family, Kendra Santos, posted a tribute on Facebook.

“Our rodeo family lost a talented young cowboy last night. Wyoming bull rider Dylan Grant was stepped on at the Wharton County Youth Fair Xtreme Bulls in Wharton, Texas. Medics worked on the 2023 University of Wyoming graduate in the ambulance at the scene. Dylan, 24, was then life-flighted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, where he was pronounced. There are no worthy words of sympathy at a time of such profound shock and sadness.
Love and prayers to Dylan’s heartbroken family and friends from every single one of us.”
