Husband forced his wife to sign divorce papers right on the hospital bed, but he didn’t expect who would be the one abandoned…

The 7th floor patient room of a private hospital was strangely quiet. The heart monitor beeped steadily, the white light shone on the pale face of Hanh – a woman who had just undergone surgery for a thyroid tumor.

Before she could fully wake up from the anesthesia, Hanh saw her husband Khai standing at the head of the bed, holding a stack of papers in his hand.

– Are you awake? Okay, sign here.

His voice was cold, without a trace of mercy.

Hanh was confused:
– What is it… what paper?

Khai pushed the papers towards her, briefly:
– Divorce papers. I’ve already written them. Just sign them and it’s done.

Hanh was stunned. Her lips moved, her throat still sore from the surgery, she couldn’t form words. Her eyes were full of pain and confusion.

– What are you joking about?

– I’m not kidding. I told you, I don’t want to live with a weak, sick woman all year round. I’m tired of carrying the burden alone. You should let me live with my true feelings.

Khai spoke calmly, as if he was talking about changing phones, not abandoning his wife who had spent nearly 10 years of his life with him.

Hanh smiled faintly, tears flowing from the corners of her eyes.

– So… you waited for the moment when I couldn’t move, couldn’t react… to force me to sign?

Khai was silent for a few seconds, then nodded:
– Don’t blame me. This had to happen sooner or later. I have someone else. She doesn’t want to live in the dark anymore.

Hanh bit her lip. The pain in her throat was nothing compared to the pain screaming in her heart. But she didn’t scream or cry out loud, she just asked softly:

– Where is the pen?

Khai was surprised.
– You… really will sign?

– Didn’t you say so? This had to be done sooner or later.

He put the pen in her hand. Hanh took it with trembling hands and slowly signed her name.

– Done. Wish you happiness.

– Thank you. I will return the property as agreed. Goodbye.

Khai turned and left. The door closed, eerily soft. But less than three minutes later, it opened again.

A man walked in. It was Dr. Quan, Hanh’s best friend from college, who had performed her surgery. In his hands were medical records and a bouquet of white roses.

– I heard the nurse say Khai just arrived?

Hanh nodded, smiling lightly:
– Yes, I came to get a divorce.

– Are you okay?

– Better than ever.

Quan sat down next to her, placed the flowers on the table, then quietly handed out an envelope.

– This is a copy of the divorce papers your lawyer sent me. The other day you said: if Khai submits the papers first, then give this to me to sign.

Hanh opened it and signed without hesitation. She turned to look at Quan, her eyes brighter than ever:

– From now on, I won’t live for anyone else. I don’t have to force myself to be a “good enough” wife, nor do I have to pretend to be okay when I’m tired.

– I’m here. Not to replace anyone, but to be there for you if you need me.

Hanh nodded slightly. A tear fell – but not of pain. But of relief.

A week later, Khai received an express mail package. It was a fully signed divorce decree. Attached was a small handwritten note:

“Thank you for choosing to leave, so that I no longer have to try to hold on to someone who has already let go.
The one left behind is not me.
It is you – forever losing someone who once loved you with everything she had.”

At that moment, Khai understood:  the person who thought he had the initiative was the one who was mercilessly abandoned.
