6 dead, 2 missing after boat capsizes on Lake Tahoe

Six individuals lost their lives, two were admitted to the hospital, and two others are still unaccounted for following a boat capsizing incident on Lake Tahoe Saturday evening.
Just prior to 5 p.m., the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received several notifications regarding a capsized vessel with 10 occupants near D.L. Bliss State Park. The lake was reportedly facing significant swells, with waves reaching heights of 6 to 8 feet.

Witnesses informed South Tahoe Now that around 3 p.m., the winds abruptly intensified, resulting in perilous conditions on the water.

On June 21, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Lake Tahoe, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, while two others were hospitalized and two remain missing after a boat capsized. (U.S. Coast Guard) Local agencies, in collaboration with the U.S.

Coast Guard and California State Parks, responded to the scene where witnesses reported observing a group of individuals in the water near the overturned vessel. Six adults were confirmed deceased.

Two survivors were rescued from the water and taken to a local hospital. As of Saturday night, two individuals are still unaccounted for, according to Coast Guard officials. The conditions on the lake were severe, as reported by the Sacramento Bee, with winds reaching 30 knots, an air temperature of 38 degrees, and a wind chill approaching freezing, based on data from the National Weather Service.

There are claims that the boat involved was a Chris-Craft, although authorities have yet to verify this information. The circumstances surrounding this tragic event are still under investigation, and no additional details, including the names of the victims, have been disclosed.

The sheriff department’s Search and Rescue team, along with a Dive Team, is scheduled to return to the area on Sunday morning to continue search operations.
