Democrats are in an uproar following the indictment of a judge from Fort Bend County, Texas, who faces multiple charges of money laundering. This situation prompted the judge’s political party to demand his resignation after he voluntarily surrendered and was subsequently released upon posting a $10,000 bail.
To provide context, Judge KP George of Fort Bend County, Texas, was taken into custody on April 4, 2025, facing two counts of money laundering, classified as a third-degree felony. The allegations against George arise from his purported use of unethical methods to finance his campaign; however, the judge maintains his innocence regarding any wrongdoing.
In a statement released to the media, Judge George claimed that the Fort Bend County District Attorney is pursuing a political agenda against him, accusing the DA of “weaponizing” his authority. He stated, “Allegations and accusations are being made without full context or disclosure of the facts — deliberately manipulating the narrative to tarnish my reputation and character.”
Furthering his remarks, Judge George emphasized that he has “always operated with integrity and transparency,” and added, “There is nothing illegal about loaning personal funds to my own campaign and later repaying that loan. This is a standard and lawful practice.”]}
In concluding his defense, Judge George expressed his belief that “the truth will prevail,” and further stated, “In the meantime, I remain dedicated to serving and advocating for the people of Fort Bend County with the same passion and commitment as always.” Additionally, Judge George referred to the investigation as a “political witch hunt.”
Following Judge George’s assertion that he had acted appropriately, notable Democrats from Fort Bend County criticized him, including local party Chair Fred Taylor. Taylor remarked to the media, “I am very disappointed in Judge George; his actions have let us down and demonstrated a lack of good judgment in the position he occupies.”
Moreover, Taylor conveyed to the press his belief that Judge George “should resign” after his release upon the posting of his $10,000 bail. Taylor elaborated, “I believe he should step down because he has proven that he lacks the integrity necessary for that office.” He further commented, “This county judge has consistently portrayed himself as a victim, which is what led to his current predicament, and now he is attempting to play the victim by assigning blame.”
Furthermore, a prosecutor from the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office expressed opposition to George, indicating that the inquiry into the judge’s conduct had been comprehensive. The prosecutor informed the media, “The District Attorney’s Office has consistently asserted that the investigation was in progress, and this investigation has now resulted in two 3rd-degree felony indictments for Money Laundering, which were disclosed to the public today.”
