Mahomes shared his thoughts on President Trump’s expected attendance at the big game in New Orleans — where Mahomes’ Chiefs will be looking to become the first NFL team to win three Super Bowls in a row — while speaking to reporters on Wednesday. “It’s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president,” the superstar quarterback said. “Someone that is at the top position in our country.”
When asked about whether he intended to attend the game on Wednesday, Trump opted not to give a direct answer, though he did praise Mahomes for his success. “I don’t want to say, but there’s a certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner,” the president said when asked about which team he will be rooting for.
While Trump did not mention Mahomes by name, he has praised the star quarterback and his wife, Brittany, in recent months. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who will be playing against Mahomes for the second time in a Super Bowl, has also yet to secure a ring, all but confirming which quarterback the president was speaking about.
Mahomes figured out that Trump was likely talking about him and shared his thoughts on receiving praise from the commander-in-chief. “It’s cool to hear that he’s seen me play football and respects the game that I play,” Mahomes told reporters.
Mahomes is not the only Chiefs superstar who has praised President Trump ahead of the big games, as superstar tight-end Travis Kelce offered similar comments during the team’s media day. Kelce, who has been dating anti-Trump pop superstar Taylor Swift for two years, said it will be an “honor” if Trump does indeed attend the game.
“I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know. And having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world. So, that’d be pretty cool,” Kelce said.
Other Chiefs figures have also addressed the historical impact that Trump’s presence could bring to the big game. Gracie Hunt, the daughter of Chiefs team owner Clark Hunt, heaped praise upon the president during a recent appearance on Outback’s Riley Gaines’ podcast.
“It’s pretty cool. It’s pretty awesome,” she said. “Sometimes, I just look at whoever I’m talking to, and I’m like, ‘Yeah, that just wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card.’ But, wow, that’s just absolutely incredible.”
While Mahomes opted not to endorse a candidate ahead of the pivotal November election, he did urge fans to get registered to vote and stressed the importance of voting in the best interest of family. Brittany Mahomes previously drew the ire of the far-left for liking an Instagram post that endorsed President Trump’s policy goals.
“I don’t want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever, either way,” the star quarterback said at the time. “I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote. It’s to inform people to do their own research and then make the best decision for them and their family.”
When Swift opted to endorse then-Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10, Trump told “Fox And Friends” that he liked Brittany “much better” than Swift. Mahomes later praised his wife’s influence when asked about Trump’s comments the following day. “I think you see Brittany does a lot in the community,” Mahomes told reporters. “At the end of the day, it’s about me and my family and how we treat other people.”
In a Truth Social post on Friday, President Trump praised both teams and wished them luck in the biggest stage in sports. “Two great Quarterbacks in this game. Also, an unbelievable running back, and the absolute best tight end in football (Ever!). Incredible coaching! If they would only get rid of that really weird looking new Kickoff ‘deal,’ which actually makes football more dangerous, they would be doing everybody, especially the fans, a big favor,” Trump wrote.
“ANYWAY, IT WILL BE A GREAT GAME!!! I’ll be doing the interview, before the game, at 3:00 P.M. There hasn’t been one in four years (Gee, I wonder why?).”
