President Trump Ends Security Detail for Dr. Anthony Fauci, Citing Government Policy on Lifetime Protection

Recent reports confirm that President Donald Trump has ended the taxpayer-funded security detail for Dr. Anthony Fauci, which had been provided by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Fauci, who played a prominent and controversial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been a polarizing figure in American politics, which has led to concerns for his safety.

During a press conference in Western North Carolina, Trump addressed the decision, explaining that government employees are not entitled to lifetime security funded by taxpayers. Reports also indicate that Fauci has since hired private security to ensure his safety. The president’s actions are not limited to Fauci, as similar security revocations were made for former National Security Advisor John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Trump Defends Decision at Press Conference

When asked about the termination of Fauci’s security detail, a reporter questioned Trump directly: “The security detail for Anthony Fauci was terminated last night. Do you have any comment?”

Trump responded, “I think you know, when you work for government… at some point, your security detail comes off, and you know, you can’t have them forever.”

He further elaborated, “So I think it’s very standard. If it were for somebody else, you wouldn’t be asking the question. The question is very fair, but, you know, you work for government. We took some [security details] off other people too, but you can’t have a security detail for the rest of your life because you work for government.”

When pressed about whether he would take responsibility should anything happen to Fauci, Trump pointed to Fauci’s financial resources. “They all made a lot of money. They can hire their own security too. All the people you’re talking about—they can go out. I can give them some good numbers of very good security people. They can hire their own security. They all made a lot of money. Fauci made a lot of money,” Trump said.

Fauci Among Those Pardoned by President Biden

In a related development, Dr. Fauci received a preemptive pardon from former President Joe Biden during his final hours in office. Biden extended clemency to several individuals, including Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley, members of his family, and individuals associated with the January 6 Committee. The pardons are viewed by many as a protective measure against potential legal actions under Trump’s administration.

In a statement, Biden justified the move as necessary to protect individuals who had been targets of politically motivated investigations. “I believe in the rule of law, and I am optimistic that the strength of our legal institutions will ultimately prevail over politics,” Biden stated.

He continued, “But these are exceptional circumstances, and I cannot in good conscience do nothing. Baseless and politically motivated investigations wreak havoc on the lives, safety, and financial security of targeted individuals and their families. Even when individuals have done nothing wrong—and in fact have done the right thing—and will ultimately be exonerated, the mere fact of being investigated or prosecuted can irreparably damage reputations and finances.”

Biden further clarified the intent behind the pardons:

“That is why I am exercising my authority under the Constitution to pardon General Mark A. Milley, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the Members of Congress and staff who served on the Select Committee, and the U.S. Capitol and D.C. Metropolitan police officers who testified before the Select Committee. The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense. Our nation owes these public servants a debt of gratitude for their tireless commitment to our country.”

A Divisive Legacy

The removal of Fauci’s security detail and the pardons issued by Biden highlight the deep political divisions that persist in American governance. For many, Fauci remains a hero who guided the nation through an unprecedented public health crisis, while others view his actions during the pandemic with skepticism and criticism.

Trump’s decision to terminate government-funded security details underscores his administration’s stance on limiting taxpayer-funded benefits for former government employees. Biden’s pardons, meanwhile, reflect his effort to protect individuals from what he describes as politically motivated retribution.

As political figures like Fauci and Milley remain at the center of these debates, the broader implications of these decisions will likely continue to shape the discourse surrounding accountability, government transparency, and the protection of public servants.
