Twin toddlers Locklyn and Loreli tragically lost their lives after slipping out of their home in Oklahoma City and into the family’s backyard pool. The 18-month-old siblings reportedly exited through a door that had been inadvertently left open, possibly by their great-grandmother, who is afflicted with Alzheimer’s.
Their mother, Jenny Callazzo, a stay-at-home mom of six who also manages a boutique, discovered the twins unconscious in the murky waters of the pool. Despite immediate emergency efforts, both children were pronounced dead hours later.
Aerial footage of the residence revealed a dark green pool filled with algae. Just days prior to the tragedy, Callazzo had shared a photo of the twins playing outside, captioned, “just want to play outside.”
Callazzo resides in the home with her husband and elderly grandmother. Neighbors recounted the heartbreaking image of the distraught mother in the back of an EMS vehicle while responders attempted to save her children.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident but have ruled out foul play, as reported by the Daily Mail. A GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family with expenses, expressing appreciation for the support from the community.
Experts caution that pools present significant dangers for toddlers. Laura Gamino, an injury prevention coordinator at OU Health, highlighted the silent and sudden nature of drowning. “Toddlers lack the skills to extricate themselves from water,” she stated.
Gamino advises parents to install 4-foot-high fences with locks that are out of children’s reach to avert similar tragedies. “Drowning is silent,” she emphasized. “That’s one of the most frightening aspects.”
